@Terrystorch pointed Chris Brogan’s post “Your 3 Goals for 2009″. I really liked this idea because I have always struggled with “resolutions” and “goals”. I think that sometimes they are so ganular that if anything chanages in life (and it will) that you have to either bail on them or at a minimum re-write them. That seems to me like they must not be really core if you have to do either. With “Three Words” I can really go core. So here they are.
Consistent. A verse that has become a part of me over the last few years of hanging with @Gregsurratt is Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” I am a great starter of things, just not that consistent. In all the major areas of my life (Christ-follower, husband, father, leader, author, friend, son) I plan on working at being consistent in 2009. If I don’t quit (give up) I will reap a harvest.
Clean. A lack of clutter and noise has become very important to me over the last several years. In 2009 I want to take it to another level. Eat cleaner. Cleaner office. Cleaner systems. Cleaner communication. Cleaner schedule.
Compassion. I am not a naturally compassionate person. This is an area that I really want to work on in 2009. This will mean looking for opportunities in my church, community and world to show compassion but it will also mean looking for times to be compassionate towards my wife, my children and my family and co-workers.
Three words that would change me in 2009 if I let them permiate my life.
What are your three words?
